ECI Regional Initiative is a project component designed to enhance Georgia’s regional integration into European and Black Sea/Caspian Energy Markets.

Within the scope of this program component, ECI regularly carries out activities helping Georgia adopt cohesive regional stances on policy issues through cooperation with regional institutions and organizations.

The activities include supporting:

  • Full or partial travel funding of representatives of Minister of Energy to the outstanding meetings, such as: Ministerial Council or Athens Energy Community.
  • Travel funding of relevant institutions to the meetings of Athens Energy Community or the Energy Regulators Regional Association.
  • Financial support of the attendance of two GoG representatives at the EC’s High Level Group and a gas distribution conferences sponsored by EC and USAID in Zagreb, Croatia.
  • Financial support of study of the Georgian National Electricity and Water Regulatory Commissioner at the Florence School of Regulation in Basic Training Course on Regulation of Energy Utilities.
  • Supporting the attendance of relevant institutions at PURC regulatory training session in Florida.

In addition, ECI’s consultant Ms. Uzicanin develops and presents to the Ministry Athens Energy Community presentations regarding the requirements and advantages of the Membership.
Ms. Uzicanin coordinates the activities on analysis of the Georgian legal and regulatory framework relevant for the Energy Community Treaty and Georgia’s application for the full membership in the Energy Community.

Furthermore, Ms Uzicanin continues to direct the assessment of the laws and regulations regarding the energy sector in support of the GoG in understanding the gaps that may exist between Georgian Laws and Regulations and those of the EU. She regularly preparers comprehensive reports on results of this activity, including recommendations, training plan and other assistance programs for the relevant energy sector organizations.
